With the household charge deadline set as 31st march, NO campaigners asking the government to back down on the contreversial €100 household charge, under 700,000 households have actually paid.

The Household Charge, which they say is going to improve  services in Ireland … many are still unconvinced, saying why should we pay another tax? Have your say on the €100 household charge here…

The Best Television Adverts from the Eighties

I recently setup a poll for the Best Movies of the 1980’s but TV Adverts from the 80s are some of the most memorable. From a finger of fudge to the Milkybar kid, those songs are still engrained on peoples memories. … well if you grew up in the 80s that is!

There’s a great one on the final set of videos (2nd last advert) … “You never know what’s around the corner, so Don’t Run” … what was that selling?

Anyway, I have placed some videos of Television Adverts from the 80’s below … whats your favourite advert? I might create a poll around this at some point.

Are you getting good service from companies in Ireland?

With the recession it seems that certain businesses are reducing levels of service in order to save costs.

The boom is over and prices have fallen, but have levels of service also been reduced – getting poor service is something which is creeping in here in there.

From Restaurants and Bars to Travel Services and the general Service industry. I have seen many examples in the past year where I feel that service just was not up to scratch … not going to name any places (just yet) , but I’m just wondering if I’m alone. In one establishment, I held out my hand to get change and while looking me in the eye, the girl at the till plonked the coins onto the counter, another incident involved going to a till and the cashier just saying “20” … not “Thats €20 please”, just “20” – no please and when I was finished, no thank you.
Small things but I haven’t returned there!

Ireland has no confidence in the Government

A TNS/MRBI poll which was published in today’s Irish Times shows that the people of Ireland are not satisfied with the Government’s performance. The public support for the Irish government is at only 11% since May, while 85% are dissatisfied with the government and 4% are undecided. Based on this poll, the general indication is that support for Fianna Fáil is around 17%.

There is a serious possibility of a general election before Christmas there is also a possibility that the Lisbon vote on October 2nd could be another chance for people to vote against the government.

Minister for Foreign Affairs Micheál Martin insisted that the disappointing poll results did not raise questions about the “leadership” of the Taoiseach Brian Cowen.

I have carried out some research of my own on this website in the past few months, asking “Should the leader of the Irish Government step down?”. A whopping 83% said Yes he should resign. This poll ran from March to July 2009.

It is interesting times for the government but their lack of personality and the fact that they appear to be out of touch with the everyday Irish person is alarming.
Prediction : I think an election (or top level resignation) will be announced some time between 5th October and 20th November … based on Lisbon and some other political milestones.
