Dot
A Dot can be placed above or after musical notes in musical notation. The dot over a note means that the note should be played staccato - therefore the note should be held for less than its full length. If the dot is placed after a note, then the time value of the note is to be extended by half - therefore a dotted minim is held for 3 beats.
