My Review
We arrived a bit early so we checked in but were not allocated our room as it was not yet ready. The staff on the check in desk were always great and they mided our bags while we went to get lunch. There was also fruit at reception so we did enjoy an apple from this fruit bowl which was a nice touch. One extra nuice touch was the constant text communication via WhatsApp and Email. So there is no lack of contact from the hotel and you can find out everything you need to know via this method. I had not seen such an approach before and I have stayed at a lot of hotels in the last 5 years both in Ireland and UK but also Europe and the USA.
We were looking foward to getting lunch in the hotel, as we had driven all the way from Waterford, however Sky News was on every screen and you could not avoid it. With the news being so negative at the moment, this is the LAST thing I want when going for a relazing break away so we left the restaurant and went to Tullamore town for food. i think having news on like this is something which is a no no for me !
When we returned we got the key to our room, which, on arrival in the room was bright and smelled very fresh. The room had a nice view on to the courtyard which was nice and a nice size TV with good reception and some good channels. There were also plentiful tea and coffee making facillities in the room The bathroom was a good size but had a few signs of wear and tear such as the toilet lid being skewed to one side and a limscale stain a the back ; probably to be expected in hotel that sees daily use. The hot wather however was very plentiful and very hot which was great. The bed was comfortable and a good sleep was enjoyed. There was one room snag, which was the room safe did not work. It accepted the 4 digits but pressing ‘Lock’ did nothing.
We did look at using the Gym, as we saw that there was a Virtual Spin session for 7:30. The staff at the gym said we could not book in as the manager left at 12pm and he books people in. I found this to be very strange as hotel guests would not be around until 2pm or 3pm (maybe later) so only allowing use of the Virtual Spin session by booking in before 12 was very strange. Plus we asked to use the bathrooms in the gym and were directed to the hotel toilets even though there were ones in the gym. Furthermore, there was no disenfectant in the gym, which is the norm in the gyms I frequent.
The breakfast next morning was very good with a wide selection of fruit, cereal, bread, hot foods and drinks to suit every palette. The only other thing which I thought was a negative, was the level of noise in the corrifdor from 8:30 onwards. I know the cleaning staff need to clean rooms but there was a lot of disruption, more than I would expect for that time – if it was 11am I think I would expect it.
Overall Score
Overall, the hotel is well run (with the exceptoin of the gym), and I think I would certainly return.
Positives : Staff, Room, Breakfast, Comfy Bed, Tea/Coffee Facilities in room, Nice View from room
Negatives : News on during Lunch, Gym not facilitating guests, Some room Issues (safe, toilet seat), Noise in corridor from 8:30am
Overall Score : 8/10
