About Killer Queen
Killer Queen is from Queen’s 3rd studio Album, Sheer Heart Attack. The Sheer Heart Attack album was released on 8th November 1974. The album was less progressive than Queen I and Queen II, and was more of a rock album. The true classic Queen sound started to emerge with the great harmonies and wonderful melody lines from Freddie and classic guitar riffs from Brian starting to get stronger. The Sheer Heart Attack album had hits such as Killer Queen which reached number 2 in the British Charts, and Now I’m Here which reached number 11 in the charts. The album itself reached number 2 in the UK Album charts.
Unless you really read into the song, Killer Queen actually refers to a high-class courtesan or escort. The song Killer Queen went on to have Freddie Mercury nominated for his first Ivor Novello Award. Although he did not win the Ivor Novello award (although WikiPedia says otherwise… it’s wrong, Streets of London won in 1974), Freddie came second in that award category. Freddie did however win an Ivor Novello Award in 1975 for Bohemian Rhapsody.
If you are using the Killer Queen chords on this page it is worth nothing that Freddie used an upright piano which was very slightly off concert-pitch (credited as “jangle piano”) to give an older-world feel to it.
