Is Freddie Mercury Singing the Coronation Street Theme Tune in the Great Pretender?

I was recently listening to the version of The Great Pretender which Freddie Mercury covered back in 1987. About halfway through Freddie does a few vocal gymnastics and I just thought it sounded familiar. I realized it and decided to highlight it in this post and video.

Is Freddie Mercury Singing the Coronation Street Theme Tune in the Great Pretender? During the song, The Great Pretender, which Freddie Mercury covered in 1987, there is a section of his vocal gymnastics in the middle of the song which sounds like the theme from Coronation Street. Don’t forget that the music video for I Want to Break Free was actually a parody of Coronation Street. The video was actually banned in the USA, mainly because they did not know that this was a parody, and instead they just thought that Queen were just dressing in drag for the sake of it. At that stage, unfortunately, Queen lost the USA and as it turned out, the last time Queen played in the USA was in September 1982.

Queen Release the Queen Rock Tour Mobile Game

Queen have launched a mobile game called Queen Rock Tour on the 50th Anniversary of Queen. The new mobile game Queen Rock Tour allows you to play along with the band and the Queen back catalogue. Players can re-live classic Queen Concerts from the Rainbow to Wembley.

Upon the launch of the Queen Rock Tour game on 1st March, Brian May said that you could ” Be a Lockdown Rock Star! “

Unfortunately, this mobile game is the closest we are going to come to experiencing a Queen Tour in 2021, as the effects of Covid continue to impact live music across the world.

The concept of the game is that it is a play-along rhythm game, similar to games like GuitarHero. Apparently this is the first official Queen mobile game. There was a mobile game called “Play the Game” but this was probably not endorsed by Queen (either way it is no longer available on the AppStore)

The new Queen Rock Tour game allows fans to experience the thrill of playing live with Queen on the event of their Golden Jubilee. Although we would all lobe to be stomping our feet at a live Queen concert, the best we can do in lockdown is to stomp our thumbs all over our mobile devices. You can play along with Brian’s guitar, Freddie vocals and piano riffs, Johns Bass and Rogers Drum playing. All you have to do is stay on rhythm and score as many points as you can.

There are 20 songs included on the game including Keep Yourself Alive, Bohemian Rhapsody, We are the Champions, Radio Ga Ga and many many more. There are also various venues you can play including the Rainbow and Wembley Stadium.

The graphics are amazing and you can even stylise your band with icon outfits from the bands 50 year career. You will also see images which up to now may not have been seen by many and you will learn nots of Queen facts along the way.

Probably the last time we saw an official computer game with Queen’s music was ‘Queen: The Eye’ back in 1997.

This game is another way the Queen are reaching a new audience and a new generation of Queen fans. Building on the success of the recent tours with Adam Lambert and also the resounding success that was the Bohemian Rhapsody BioPic which took 4 Oscars at the 2019 Academy Awards, and many other awards along the way.

From what I can see the game has been very positively received in the Queen community.

Amazing – Bohemian Rhapsody turned into a noir crime thriller

Over the years many have asked, What is Bohemian Rhapsody really about? What does Bohemian Rhapsody mean? What is the story behind Bohemian Rhapsody? Well now someone has created a Bohemian Rhapsody Noir Crime Movie , basically a crime drama out of the classic Queen song.

This amazing short from Corridor Digital brings a brand new perspective on the ‘What is Bohemian Rhapsody about’ saga. This short file takes the lyrics and puts them in the hands of a ‘poor boy from a poor family’ who ‘killed a man’. You know the rest of the story! It is quite a production and the Bohemian Rhapsody Noir Crime Movie is only a short snippet so don’t go looking for a 90 minute Netflix piece.

Even though I know the lyrics really well, seeing them in this format is intriguing.

I have my own ideas about What does Bohemian Rhapsody Mean, especially after watching the official Biopic / Bohemian Rhapsody Movie. I will keep my ideas to myself and you can enjoy this snippet in the YouTube clip below.

Freddie for a Day 2012 marks the third year of this event. It is a worldwide celebration of the life of the great Freddie Mercury. Freddie for a take takes place 2 days before Freddies Brithday which is 5th September. We can turn the world into one full of moustaches for a day while all the time raising funds to combat AIDS, which claimed Freddie in November 1991.

Freddie for a day in 2011 raised more than a quarter of a million pounds thought the Freddie for a Day events and contributions. The Freddie for a Day events were all channeled through the Mercury Phoenix Trust, the HIV/AIDS foundation set up in Freddie Mercury’s memory which to this day continues the fight against AIDS ignorance and AIDS infection worldwide.

Last year Freddie for a Day saw Katy Perry donning the a Freddie costume from his final Wembley concert, as well as moustaches on Stephen Fry, Jeff Beck, Princesses Beatrice and Eugenie, Russell Brand, and of course Ben Elton of We Will Rock You fame.

Freddie For a Day 2012 hits the London Savoy on September 3 when the famous will be treated to another evening of Comedy and Rock’n’Roll. The nation gets to have their fun with it and make their own personal contribution on Freddie’s actual birthday on September 5.

Back in 2012, I found out that the Queen Character Test on my Queen Fan site had stopped working.  So after spending a few hours reprogramming it this evening, I was delighted that the Queen Character test was now back up and running. However, in 2016 I moved servers to shanemcdonald.ie, as a result, I had to re-program and re-edit every page on the site. The test basically allowed you to find Which member of Queen are you – and was very popular.

Innocent Smoothies feature a Fantastic New Advert using Flash’s Theme

This excellent new advert from Innocent Smoothies uses Flashs Theme, with “Fruit Aaah” instead of “Flash Aaah”. At the end of 2010 Innocent Smoothies started re-recording the Queen song ‘Flash’ for an advert for the smoothie company. The advert has a smoothie bottle in a cape flying around at high speed. The original sound of the Queen recording was achieved and apparently Reinhold Mack, the producer of the original recording was tracked down. Innocent used as many tricks to try recreate the sound of the Flash advert as much as possible, including using old microphones, using similar guitar amps to the original recording and a similar sized recording studio that Queen used to record Flash. The song was recorded over 2 days with engineer Niall Arcott recording and mixing the version for the advert. Some of the words in the song include “Fruit Aha, Saviour of the Universe”. The artists on the new advert recording include drummer Patrick Garvey, guitarist Adrian Curtis and pianist Angus Havers ; vocals were done by Keith Murrell and Chris Madin. Family Guy Queen Videos

I just found 2 Family Guy Videos which have Queen References. If you haven’t seen these , worth just talking a look.

This episode is Episode 10×16 and is titled “Killer Queen”. The episode features the unsettling album cover which features frank the big robot and it is not something that is liked in the episode.

The robot has the bleeding and falling bodies of Freddie Mercury, Brian May, John Deacon and Roger Taylor In this Family. Guy Episode ‘Killer Queen’ shows the horrific Queen album Cover from News of the World and baby Stewie Griffin is absolutely terrified by the album cover. The dog Brian finds the Queen album while clearing out the attic. Brian continues to scare Stewie throughout the episode with a number of very well placed gags and tricks.

The robot is probably called ‘Frank’ because the album cover was created by artist Frank Kelly Freas. There was an issue of Astounding Science Fiction which Roger Taylor had, and that cover depicted a giant intelligent robot holding the dead body of a bleeding man. So thus the album cover was inspired by that art.

There are a number of gags including the album on scratch cards, massive version of the album cover on Stewies bedroom wall. Stewie asks “God, why does he look SAD?! He’s already destroyed humanity, what else could he want?!”.

We won’t lie, though…we still hate that damn album cover.
