Press Release: Queen – Stormtroopers in Stilettos 40th Anniversary Exhibition, London 2011

2011 – QUEEN 40th – A Major Exhibition, Hollywood Film, BBC Documentary, Back Catalogue re-release to celebrate 40th Anniversary

2011 sees one of the most talented, glamorous and influential bands in musical history, QUEEN, celebrate the 40th anniversary of their formation in 1971.

With over 170 million global album sales, 18 Number One Albums, 10 Number One DVD’s, 700 concerts performed in every corner of the world including their historic appearance at Live Aid, Seven Ivor Novello Awards, inductions into the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame and Songwriters Hall of Fame and a Guinness Book of Records award for the most successful UK album chart artist ever, the Queen story is one of the most remarkable in modern British culture. 40 years after Freddie Mercury, Brian May, Roger Taylor and John Deacon formed Queen and the band became the epitome of rock n roll swagger and excess Queen continues to rule globally.

The 40th Anniversary year kicks off with a major exhibition, ‘Stormtroopers in Stilettos’ – a comprehensive look at the early part of Queen’s career, from before the band’s formation when various members were dreaming of success while studying astrophysics or running stalls next to Biba in Kensington Market, right up to their spectacular free gig for over 250,000 fans in Hyde Park in 1976. Taking place in Trumans Brewery in the heart of London’s East End the exhibition opens on February 25th running through to March 12th, and will cover the group’s first five albums from the first half of the 1970’s. The exhibition will aim to take visitors to the heart of Queen by combining interactive audio and visual environments with historic and never-before-seen memorabilia; themed rooms and music all created from the bands personal archive will come together to create an exciting, entertaining and engaging insight into the foundation and rise of the global super group Queen became. Newly signed to legendary label Island Records and to coincide with the exhibition, the first five albums that Queen released – “Queen”, “Queen II”, “Sheer Heart Attack”, “A Night At The Opera” and “A Day At The Races – will be re-mastered and re-packaged into special deluxe album formats. From the pure raw rock of “Queen” through to the majestic anthems on “A Day At The Races”, the first five albums highlight the diverse talent, musical ambition and already global success of a band made up of some of the best songwriters, musicians and performers of all time. The remainder of the band’s incredible catalogue will be released during 2011.

Subsequent to the exhibition there will be a major BBC TV Documentary featuring a rare interview with Roger Taylor and Brian May and many other surprises and releases to come through the rest of the year. 2011 will see filming begin of a major Hollywood movie about Queen, starring Sacha Baron Cohen as Freddie Mercury. Acclaimed script writer Peter Morgan (“The Queen”,” Frost/Nixon” ) is working on the project, which is being produced by GK Films, Robert de Niro’s Tribeca Productions and Queen Films.

After four decades, the collective work of Freddie Mercury, Brian May, Roger Taylor and John Deacon continues to resonate around the globe, inspiring a host of diverse artists from Lady Gaga (who took her name from Queen’s “Radio Ga Ga”), Axl Rose and Katy Perry through to Dave Grohl. Twenty years after the death of their phenomenal and flamboyant singer, Freddie Mercury remains an icon beyond measure. Look out for further exciting Queen 40 announcements in 2011.

Note: This is an old post but interesting to see the details about the starting of filming of the Queen Movie in 2011. This never happened and it was nearly 5 years later by the time shooting started on the Bohemian Rhapsody biopic.

Queen Sheet Music On-line

Buy Queen Sheet Music Online from Queens new Sheet Music Store…

Queen has launched a website which allows you to buy Queen Sheet Music Online that is accurate and detailed.

I tried a few of them such as Lazing on a Sunday Afternoon, Liar, Love of my Life and Lily of the Valley and they were spot on. I found the introduction to Love of My Life to be less of a chord than I expected (it was a 5th, not a full CMaj Chord which I was expecting) anyway the sheet music is very reasonably priced, most of them are £2.50 to £3 each. You even get a FREE First Page Sample so that you can check the type of Sheet Music (Piano/Guitar or Full Band / Off the Record Score).

Where can you get your Queen Sheet Music Online?

If you are interested and want to start downloading your Queen Sheet Music On-line the web address is ;

If you want some Queen music and you are happy just reading piano chords then perhaps you might take a look at the Queen Chords on my site. I have a dedicated section of the site aimed at brining you all the Queen Chords which I have transcribed over the years. These are all hand transcribed so they may not be as accurate as the official Queen Sheet Music. Take a look and click the links above for more.

Freddie Mercury Painting by Paul Joyce

I’m delighted to being you news of a new Freddie Mercury Painting by Paul Joyce.

Take a look below at this great painting which was created by Paul Joyce this year. I think this Freddie Mercury Painting by Paul Joyce  really captures Freddie at his peak. The painting looks like Freddie at the Milton Keynes gig at the Bowl in 1982. Freddie often wore the red sash around his waist, and this was also worn on the Works Tour, so definitely it’s Freddie between 1982 and 1984. It’s a wonderful painting of Freddie and captures his movements and his charisma.

Paul Joyce doesn’t have a Website but if anyone wants a Print of this painting here are the details;

The painting itself is a Giclee Print on the highest quality Fine Art Paper,455mm x 590mm,
Price €170 (approx £150) and you can pay by PayPal or Euro Bankers Draft

For more details please email Paul at the following email paulflyfisher@gmail.com

The Muppets version of Bohemian Rhapsody (Video)

The Muppets version of Bohemian Rhapsody (Video)

Have you seen The Muppets version of Bohemian Rhapsody?

You haven’t read this wrong – the Muppets … yes, the Muppets sing in the The Muppets version of Bohemian Rhapsody.

We all loved the Muppets when we were young. The Muppets created by Jim Henson have been less popular then they were when I was young (70s/80s). So with that, the puppet ensemble, The Muppets, have released a cover of the classic Queen song “Bohemian Rhapsody”. If you are a fan of the muppets or you just enjoy rock ballads being covered by other bands, then you will enjoy this. In it’s first wee this video had over 7 million plays.

Certain content relating to killing a man with a gun to the head was changed as Animal wasn’t comfortable singing it – so now it i.e. Mama etc.

All in all, this is an excellent version (humourous version) of the classic Queen song, Bohemian Rhapsody as performed by the Muppets. The The Muppets version of Bohemian Rhapsody is certainly a parody but it is done in good taste by characters we all grew up with. The Muppets were always on Tv when I was young and little did I know that they would, one day, perform a Queen classic such as Bohemian Rhapsody.

What do you think? Drop me a line or contact me on social media – the details of my socials are listed below.
