Jim Hutton – Freddie Mercurys Partner Dies

The partner of Freddie Mercury, Jim Hutton passed away at home in Ireland on 1st Jan 2010.

Who was Jim Hutton?

The Irish hairdresser Jim Hutton met Freddie Mercury in the early 1980s and their relationship continued until the star’s death from bronchial pneumonia resulting from AIDS on 24th November 1991.

Jim was diagnosed with the HIV virus in 1990 and passed away on New Year’s Day of complications from broncho-pneumonia. He also reportedly suffered from cancer in the last few years of his life.

He was buried in Bennekerry, Co. Carlow, Ireland on Monday 4th Jan, on the day which would have been his 61st birthday

 

In 1994, Hutton released a book entitled ‘Mercury and Me’, a memoir of his relationship with Freddie Mercury. Within the book, Jim shared details of his relationship with Freddie Mercury as well as some never before seen candid photos of both himself and Mercury together. In an interview, given shortly after the book was released, Hutton discussed various reasons why he wanted the book to be written and how it helped him deal with his grief in the aftermath of Mercury’s death.
