Gregg M has compiled a live Queen medley/mash-up to celebrate the life and loss of Freddie Mercury.
This Queen Mash-up is titled ’23 songs in 9 minutes’, it was seen as a fun way to remember or discover songs from the Queen repertoire interpreted by an acoustic duet. The full Queen Mashup video is available below.
The History of the “23 Queen songs in 9 minutes” Mashup
The history of the mash up is very interesting, Gregg was invited as a guest in a ‘Queen evening’ and felt that a simple cover version was not the way to go. Therefore he decided to create something new and challenging, in order to entertain the audience, Gregg says it was “Like a Human Jukebox, actually …. It took a while for me to figure out how to begin the monster and I worked it bit by bit. I separated it in several parts, each including 4 or more songs and then put the pieces together, just like a giant musical jigsaw puzzle. Two days later, and something like 20 hours of musical work of writing, rehearsing and demoing, I sent a draft to my singer (who’s with me in my band, The Sunchase, as well as my ‘twisted covers concept’, the Guest-Sessions) and we rehearsed it bits by bits some days later. We decided it would be more fun if we did not have any chart on stage so we worked really hard to remember everything and went onstage at ‘Le Zèbre’ in Paris the week after that.”
The new Queen book, “Queen Unseen” by Queen Roadie, Peter Hince, has hit the shops… but over the past few weeks, I have had 2 copies of “Queen Unseen” to be won on Shane’s Queen Site.
The winners were selected over the past 24 hours – in the interest of fairness I asked a 3rd party to select a short list of 3 and the final winners were selected from this list.
I am delighted to announce that the Winners of the copies of the book are…..
Donna StandridgeandRyan Cregan
Congratulations and thank you to all who took part. I will be in touch by email with the winners in the coming week.
The Queen Unseen book covers all the areas that were relevant in Queen’s working life, during Peter Hince’s time as Queen’s longest-serving roadie and head of their crew. There’s lots of new material and surprises for Queen fans and it is a book to interest anybody who likes stories of rock and roll life in the 1970s & 1980s. Many Thanks to the Author Peter Hince and John Blake Publishing for organising the copies for this competition.
The most popular rock band in England is not called The Beatles but Queen. This charismatic singer Freddie Mercury died 20 years ago today, from AIDS, November the 24th, 1991. A special issue of Queen Collector (French Version) has a special feature on Freddie and Queen including;
• Interview with Freddie Mercury • Interview with Brian May • Mercury and choreography • Mercury and Opera • On the road with Queen • Complete Discography • 100 rare photos
I have taken a look at the Queen Collector edition on ISSUU (the VibrationsMusic link did not work at the time of my testing). I can tell you the visuals are amazing but the document, as you would expect is in French, as this is the French version of Queen Collector. I can read French but it took me a while. It is a very interesting read and a good one for anyone who can lire Francais. Enjoy !
Days Of Our Lives’ began as a two-part documentary produced by long-term Queen collaborators and life long fans Rhys Thomas (the comedian who famously broke the Mastermind all time record points score with a specialist subject of Queen) and Simon Lupton, and directed by the renowned director Matt Casey. This Days Of Our Lives DVD release has lot of new material which Queen fans world wide will enjoy.
After 10 years of making Queen DVDs, Lupton and Thomas were asked by the band to produce the definitive 40th Anniversary documentary and after almost a year of painstaking research and editing, this Days Of Our Lives DVD was the result.
As well as the new sequences, there are 7 new videos. Excerpts were featured in the main documentary, but we have completed them, and here on the Days Of Our Lives DVD and Blu- Ray they appear in full.
Update: In 2018 I checked the domain http://www.ryancregan.co.uk for the official Ryan Cregan website but the content was unavailable. I will leave this page on Ryan Cregan for historical reference but if you find details about this site please email me and I will update the page in retrospect.

Brian May and Roger Taylor are working on a new album. This new Queen album will feature vocals by the late Freddie Mercury.
Up to this point Queen fans were under the impression that “Mother Love” from the 1995 “Made in Heaven” album was the last of the unreleased Queen/Freddie Mercury material. However Brian May said they are revisiting a “ton” of unreleased demos, and by doing this they hope to compile some new tracks. (source Ultimate Classic Rock)
Brian May also told the Daily Star that a new Queen musical to follow-up the “We Will Rock You” musical is planned.
Finally look out for Queen on November 6, as they receive the “Global Icon award at the MTV European Music Awards“. There are rumours that Queen will do something with Lady Gaga on the night.
News Update : Dec 5th – Roger Taylor says this rumour is not true and that there is no new Queen album!
This is a concert which Queen fans in the Los Angeles area might be interested in with all proceeds going to AIDS Project Los Angeles.
THE SHOW MUST GO ON BENEFIT CONCERT IN MEMORY OF FREDDIE MERCURY
Members of Dethklok, Young Beautiful in a Hurry, and Composer of The Walking Dead Join Together To Raise Money for APLA
(Los Angeles, CA –September 15, 2011) A unique group of musicians–and Queen fans–will come together to commemorate the twentieth anniversary of Freddie Mercury’s passing with The Show Must Go On — a live performance of the music of Queen — on November 9th at The Roxy Theatre. All proceeds from the concert and memorabilia auction will be donated to AIDS Project Los Angeles (APLA), to help combat the disease that took Freddie from this world.
In November 1991, the world mourned music legend Freddie Mercury, who died of complications resulting from AIDS. As lead singer, songwriter and the heart of Queen, Freddie’s legacy continues to inspire generations of fans.
Brendon Small (Dethklok/Adult Swim’s Metalocalypse), Brendan McCreary (Young Beautiful in a Hurry), and Bear McCreary (The Walking Dead/Battlestar Galactica) have put together an all-star line-up, with surprise guests, to honor Freddie’s legacy.
“Queen is my favorite band on earth,” said Brendon Small. “If I hadn’t heard the Flash Gordon theme at the age of 7, I’m pretty sure I wouldn’t be in show business. I’m excited to play some of my favorite songs and share the stage with some of the best musicians in the industry!”
“Queen was a rock band with truly orchestral sensibilities,” added Bear McCreary. “Their melodies, harmonies and passion for lyrical storytelling place their songs amongst the most essential ever written.”
Brendan McCreary agrees, “Freddie was less a man, and more like a fallen angel. And the art Queen created, was less like music, and more like a good friend who’s stuck with you through all the years.”
“The Show Must Go On” band: Lead Vocals: Brendan McCreary (Young Beautiful in a Hurry) Guitar: Brendon Small (Dethklok and creator of Adult Swim’s Metalocalypse) Piano: Bear McCreary (composer of Battlestar Galactica and The Walking Dead) Guitar: Mike Keneally (Frank Zappa, Steve Vai); Rick Musallam (The Roots, Gwen Stefani) Bass: Pete Griffin (Zappa Plays Zappa) Drums: Joe Travers (Zappa Plays Zappa) Backing Vocals: Raya Yarbrough (Battlestar Galactica); Felice Hernandez (Pretzel Logic) and Ben Thomas (Zappa Plays Zappa)
