The spectacular new Bridge over the River Suir in Waterford has been taking shape over the past year – it is probably one of the most photographed images in the area at present. The bridge should be completed and open to traffic this year (probably by October 2009) according to Waterford City Council. The project is ahead of schedule and was set for September 2010.
The bridge is 110 meters high at its highest point and has 76 cable stays.
The full bridge span will be completely across the river by August. Once completed, it will be the biggest cable stay bridge in the Republic of Ireland and the second largest on the island of Ireland.
The one thing I am looking forward to is the new road from Newrath to Kilkenny which will ease the journey on that road, bypassing Mullinavat and Ballyhale.
