About Good Old Fashioned Lover Boy

Good Old Fashioned Lover Boy is from Queen’s 5th studio album, A Day at the Races. The album was released on 10th December 1976 and this was the band’s first completely self-produced album. The album continues the theme of the previous and almost acts in parallel with A Night at the Opera. Both albums took their names from Marx Brothers films, as well as sharing similar album artwork and having a similar musical style. A Day at the Races went to Number 1 in the UK, Japan and the Netherlands album charts and it reached No. 5 in the USA.

Good Old Fashioned Lover Boy was a Freddie Mercury penned hit and was actually one of the first tracks I heard before I started transcribing the Queen back catalogue. It is a very popular song and is included on Greatest Hits . The track was a concert staple on the band’s A Day at the Races Tour and News of the World Tours. It even features Mike Stone on vocals at one point.
